First published in 1954, this is a compilation of selected nursery rhymes during the reign of George III. Originally published under the title:Original Ditties for the Nursery, So Wonderfully Contrived that they may be either Sung or Said, by Nurse or Baby, by John Harris, successor to the Newbery publishing family, ca. 1805. This documents the appearance of such notable rhymes as “Tweedledum and Tweedledee” which Lewis Carroll introduced into Alice Through the Looking-Glass; “A farmer went trotting upon his grey mare”; “Little Jenny Flinders” among others. An excellent nursery Gift-book.
