Illustrated with famous cubist portraits of “The Little Tramp” by Fernand Léger who would later develop the theme of a deconstructed Chaplin puppet in his avant-garde film Ballet Mécanique (1924). Small 4to, 42pp + colophon; original cream paper boards printed in black, Charlie Chaplin design with pink and partly green labels to front board by Hans Blanke.
First edition of Iwan Goll’s “cinepoem” based on the character of Charlie Chaplin, this copy inscribed by the author on the half-title: “á F. S. Flint hommage respectuers, Ivan Goll Paris 3.I.21”. The French-German author was a distinguished bilingual poet with close ties to both Expressionism and Surrealism. See The Artist and the Book 236.
